The Sedgwick Tapes
1 of 6 | NextBetween 2001 and 2006 Helen Gilbart undertook an art / science collaboration as artist in residence at the Sedgwick Museum and Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge. The residency explored aspects of evolution from its’ earliest origins and produced two exhibitions: Beginnings in 2002 – 03 and the final exhibition The Sedgwick Tapes. The latter formed part of the Cambridge Science Festival in 2006.
Beginnings and The Sedgwick Tapes increasingly developed philosophical themes within the subject. Clues and knowledge, chance and opportunism, silence, voids and the enigmas of these lost worlds all played their part.
This residency was generously funded by The Leverhulme Trust, European Union Social Fund, Suffolk County Council and Oppenheim - John Downes Memorial Trust.
